Located in Copenhagen’s Sluseholmen district, the hotel is centred around a full-height atrium with galleries and rooms arranged around the open void. We supplied several David Trubridge Coral pendants in various sizes for this central space.
The atrium is illuminated by recessed downlights integrated into the gallery soffits. Functional, but visually restrained, they provide the general illumination while leaving the large vertical space relatively undefined.
The Coral bring something very different. Suspended at different heights through the void, they create a changing composition from every level. From one gallery, some appear above, others below, while others sit directly across the space at eye level.
The exterior of each Coral is finished in the same natural bamboo, while different colours are applied to the inner surfaces. These remain discreet during the day and appear only when the pendants are illuminated, adding colour and depth to the atrium after dark.
Where the pendants come close to the walls, their open cellular structure projects large, intricate shadows onto the surfaces. It is this interplay of light, form and shadow that gives the atrium its character.
