At the Berliner Werkstätten für Menschen mit Behinderung in Berlin-Lichterfelde, David Trubridge’s Kōura brings warmth and softness to the canteen of the historic Goerzwerk.

The lighting installation is deliberately restrained: Kōura pendants in different sizes, suspended at varying heights to create a loose, organic composition across the space. Most are finished in natural bamboo, while a small number feature a vivid orange interior — used sparingly as a point of colour against the otherwise calm palette.

The different proportions give the installation its rhythm. Seen from a distance, the pendants form one flowing composition; closer up, each reveals its own scale and character.

There is also something particularly fitting about Kōura in this setting. The Berliner Werkstätten is a place of making and craftsmanship, where people work with their hands every day. Kōura shares that spirit: each light begins as a flat-packed collection of precision-cut bamboo pieces and takes shape through assembly by hand.

Natural material, simple geometry and a touch of colour — an installation that feels both warm and purposeful within the industrial surroundings.
