NAVICULA

For Arvia, the cruise liner operated by P&O Cruises, David Trubridge’s Navicula brings a distinctly organic element to one of the ship’s restaurants.

Inspired by the intricate forms of diatoms — microscopic organisms found throughout the world’s oceans — Navicula has a natural connection to life at sea. With its broad, flowing form, each pendant appears to float above the restaurant like a manta ray gliding through water.

Several Navicula pendants are suspended in a row along the window front, their warm metallic finish complementing the rich palette of coral and lacquer red, petrol green, lime and hammered copper.

Rather than acting as the primary source of illumination, the pendants define the space visually. Suspended above the dining area, they create rhythm and scale within the open-plan restaurant, while the changing light and views beyond the windows remain part of the experience.

A sculptural lighting installation that brings a sense of movement, nature and calm to the dining space.
