SOLA

At the only four-star hotel and conference venue in South Greenland, David Trubridge’s Sola becomes a striking feature of the double-height lounge.

Sola means “sun” — an especially fitting name in a place where light is such a defining part of the landscape. For this project, however, the designer chose to keep the original form while specifying the pendants entirely in white, creating a subtle connection to the surrounding Arctic environment.

Six Sola pendants are suspended through the upper part of the space at varying distances and heights. Their sculptural forms stand out against the white architecture while remaining harmonious with the cool, pale tones of the landscape beyond the windows.

After dark, the open structure of each pendant comes to life, casting intricate patterns across the pitched ceiling and walls. The warm glow contrasts beautifully with the blue-grey light outside and the fjord beyond.

Here, Sola becomes more than a light fitting. Its name evokes the sun, its white finish reflects its surroundings, and its generous scale brings warmth and character to one of the hotel’s main gathering spaces.
