Fisketorvet, one of Copenhagen’s larger shopping centres, stands on the site of the city’s former fish market — a detail that made David Trubridge’s Kōura a natural choice for the entrance.
We supplied several Kōura pendants in different sizes, suspended above the seating area beside the revolving entrance doors. Their woven bamboo structures bring an organic, almost aquatic quality to the space, creating a strong visual identity as soon as visitors enter.
The connection to the building’s history is subtle rather than literal. Kōura takes its name from the Māori word for crayfish, while its sculptural form and open structure naturally evoke the world of the sea.
Suspended together at different heights, the large-scale pendants create a distinctive focal point within the spacious entrance — a composition that is easy to recognise from across the centre and equally engaging up close.
For the shopping centre’s designer, Kōura was therefore more than a decorative lighting choice: it was a natural link between the building’s present and its history on Copenhagen’s harbourfront.
